This airport is the host of the Italian Air Force’s 2nd Reparto Genio and is named after Giovan Battista Pastine, a WWI airship pilot. It is one of the oldest operating airports, opening in 1916, and until 1960, was the main Roman airport. The Norge left this airport in 1926 and was the first one to land at the North Pole.  The first helicopter design was tested in this airport in 1930. It was home to the United States Army Air Force during WWII when they captured it.

CIA has one bitumen 2,208-meter runway and over 1.6 million passengers passed through its one terminal in 2020. All of the departures and arrivals pass through a single level at the terminal where there are 16 gates and no jet bridges. Planes are boarded on the tarmac via either a bus or by foot. Shopping, food, drink and 31 check-in counters are all in the main area of the terminal.

All of the parking lots are close to the terminal, so they are an easy walk. Ground transportation consists of taxis, trains, buses and car rentals.

Ciampino Airport Reviews

★★★★☆
Niezłe lotnisko, ale w nocy za bardzo nie widać, co się dzieje. Autokary jeżdżą w odpowiednich godzinach do centrum Rzymu, stamtąd można dojechać wszędzie. Niezbyt tłoczne lotnisko, bardzo fajne. Tylko w sklepach za drogo :///

★★☆☆☆
The flight was supposed to land on Fiumicino, but due to the fire that happened there that same day on Alitalia terminal, our flight was diverted to CIA, along with many others, and it was terrible to leave to Rome, there were no taxis avaible, i managed to get a bus to the nearest subway station
- Nuno R de A Graça

★★★★☆
Nice little airport, very easy to navigate, with no queues at security. Only downside is that there isn't enough seating for all the passengers. Getting to and from Rome was quite easy with the many coach companies available.
- Giorgio Montecatino

★★★★☆
- Mark Ludwig Milano

★★★☆☆
Well, its a small airport but really doesnt lack much. I had to wait 5 hours for my next flight and it can surely become a small airport for such a long wait. But facilities are clean and there is quite a large Duty Free shop. Yet i wish there was a lot more seating available as most passengers are either standing or sitting on the floor

Walk-off set-up, where you walk across the tarmac into customs/arrivals. Waited for an exceptionally long time for bags to arrive. There is a caffe just outside of arrivals but make your way first to check out bus times to get into Rome. Avoid the bus to Termini (overpriced) and instead take the local bus to the train or metro station. Quicker and cheaper.

★★☆☆☆
Travelling outbound is a mess. There is one long queue and the staff is impolite. Security is a long slog and the staff are sticklers about quantities; we were hassled about some grocery items on several occasions. There is no place to sit and once you pass through a second phase of security there are no services available. Allow for plenty of time to get through this labyrinth.
- Thomas Xenopoulos Pe

★★☆☆☆
Basic airport, lomg queues at the check-in, security check times average. Limited choice of bars and shops. Complimentary wifi working well.
- Sergio Da Palma

★☆☆☆☆
What a mess. Hundreds of people waiting for the sescurity check. Unable to cross, no organization, no information. Worst airport experience so far.
