Changi Airport says Hello Kitty with launch of month-long Nordic event

SINGAPORE. Changi Airport is hosting a programme of Nordic-themed experiences and activities this June.

The event kicked off on 26 May with a special ‘Nordic Adventures’ performance featuring Hello Kitty and other characters from Japanese company Sanrio’s stable [My Melody, Pompompurin, Gudetama, Cinnamoroll, and the Little Twin Stars]. It took place in Terminal 3 and some fans were able to have their photo taken with the seven characters after the performance.

Nordic-themed Sanrio character displays and meet-and-greet sessions form a key part of the month-long event. Sanrio fans will also have the chance to win a trip to Sanrio Puroland theme park in Japan by voting for their favourite character online until 20 June. The most popular character will be crowned at a closing event at the airport on 26 June, when all seven characters will return for a final group appearance.

Other elements aim to inspire travel to the Nordic countries of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden, Changi Airport said. A Viking ship-inspired gallery, a snowy landscape featuring the Northern Lights, and a recreation of the old town in Stockholm, Sweden feature in T3’s Departure Hall.

A Lego play corner has also been installed, alongside a dance mat that allows “aspiring artistes” to create their own ABBA remix, with participants able to win air tickets to the Nordic region.

A Snow Fun House has been installed in T3 at Check-in Row 11, and features real snow. Activities include the chance to build a snowman, visit an igloo or ride a luge down a snowy slope. Visitors can also browse through a selection of exclusive Nordic animal plush toys and Sanrio character merchandise at the Nordic Gift Store located next to the Snow Fun House.

A minimum spend of S$60 (US$43.3) in maximum two same-day receipts (S$80 for supermarket purchases) at participating retail and F&B outlets in the public areas of Changi Airport entitles guests to one pass admitting two ticket-holders to the Snow Fun House for one session.

The Changi Airport-exclusive Sanrio merchandise includes folders and tote bags. Changi Rewards members will also be able to purchase limited-edition Sanrio Changi gift cards, either individually or in a complete set of six which comes with a limited-edition box. Each gift card costs S$5 and holds a minimum store value of S$20. The gift box is limited to the first 30 customers who purchase all six designs of gift cards.

“Whether our visitors are travelling or simply here to shop and dine, Changi Airport is constantly looking to delight and surprise with fresh and exciting experiences,” said Changi Airport Group Vice President, Landside Concessions James Fong. “We are thrilled to be the first in Singapore to host the seven well-loved Sanrio characters – the largest group ever in Singapore. Coupled with immersive Nordic experiences, we hope to deliver yet another memorable Changi experience to all our passengers and shoppers this holiday season.”

The event began on 26 May and runs until 26 June. More information can be found on a dedicated section of the airport’s website.
