Named for the pioneering Senegalese politician Blaise Diagne, it is located in Yoff, about 15 km from downtown Dakar. The airport is operated by ADB (L’Aeroport de Dakar Blaise Diagne), a company jointly owned by Senegal’s state-owned investment fund and French infrastructure investor Vinci Concessions.

The airport was inaugurated on December 7th 2017 and is currently the main international gateway for travelers to Senegal, with direct flights to Barcelona, Dubai, Abidjan and Paris CDG. It has two terminal buildings – Terminal 1 and 2 – as well as a VIP lounge, duty free stores and several restaurants. The airport features two runways – one 2,870m long and the other 2,150m long which provide efficient take-offs and landings for airlines operating there.

In addition to being an international hub for passengers flying into or out of Dakar, Blaise Diagne Airport also serves as an important cargo hub in West Africa. It has a dedicated cargo terminal which can handle up to 500t of freight per day via airfreight alone. Moreover, the nearby Port of Dakar provides an additional rail connection with direct links to neighbouring countries like Mali and Guinea Bissau.

The airport also houses several unique facilities such as a fire station staffed round the clock with highly trained personnel; a maintenance center providing technical assistance service; medical services; banking services; money exchange points; post office services; car rental companies; parking facilities capable of accommodating up to 1,000 vehicles at any given time; a restaurant complex featuring local cuisine; duty free shopping outlets offering both alcoholic beverages and premium brand products; prayer rooms available for Muslims performing their salah ritual five times daily; lounges providing comfortable recliners for passengers waiting for their flights; WiFi access throughout the terminal buildings; conference halls fully equipped with multimedia systems that are suitable for holding large events such as conferences or seminars; business centers featuring computers with internet access connected to printers, scanners and fax machines; travel agencies that offer tours packages to visiting tourists who wish to explore Dakar and its surroundings more thoroughly; among many other amenities that ensure passengers have all their needs met before boarding their flight or upon arriving at their destination.
