Auckland Airport (IATA: AKL, ICAO: NZAA), is an airport serving the Auckland area in New Zealand. Scroll down or click here to see what Auckland Airport shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, and facilities we have in our Duty Free Information 2024 Database. Currently in our database we have information on 59 shops, 9 cafes, and 19 restaurants at Auckland Airport. If you believe this data is out of date or incorrect in any way, please contact us and we will get our team of researchers to correct our data.

It has one concrete 3,535-meter runway and one in the planning works. There were 21 million passengers and 178,775 aircraft movements in 2018-2019. It has two terminals, one for domestic use and one for international use, and 65 gates with 23 jetbridges. There are remote stands for 42 airplanes.

AKL began as an aero club in 1928 when the group said they found it a perfect place to build an airport. In the 1940s, it was the base for the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and by 1960, it was transformed into a civilian airport. By 1973, the runway had been expanded from 2,590 meters to 3,535 meters long. During the 1990s and 2000s, there were attempts to build another runway, but the plans never went through. There have been several terminal upgrades throughout the years, so not all of the renovation plans have failed.

Parking options include long- and short-term parking, motorcycle and bike parking and meet and greet. Ground transportation includes taxis, shuttles, ride shares and public transportation.

Way to travel, bucket list.Emirates Limo to airport, early check in,early French bubbles in lounge,a pity our lounge doesn't have the runway views like Brisbane or Heathrow (WOW). Some swine nabbed my 23A so had 23K,probably the two best seats in business. Service great as usual and was able to sleep for the first time on a long haul.Met some great people in the lounge,it was a holiday on it's own .

Declared epilepsy medication. Directed to inspection lanes. 3 separate queues before I was finally waved through without an inspection. I would rather have had my luggage fully inspected than be in 3 queues just to be let out without being checked. Epileptics don't do well when under stress.

Transferred ANZ flight from SYD to ANZ flight to SFO. Airport is just average. Connecting capabilities are good and quick. Terminal is old. ANZ Business Lounge very nice, with excellent food and good wifi. The gates we flew into and out of were very outdated.

Parking was a bit of a hassle as there is no drop-off point for those with mobility issues. It was very difficult getting to the airline due to the long distance.
