Two 3,920-meter asphalt runways give airplanes ample room to take off and land. The airport saw 118,341 aircraft movements and 9 million-plus passengers in 2021. Before COVID-19, the airport handled close to 29 million passengers. It is the second busiest airport in Italy, and it moves 500,000 tons of freight every year.

MXP started as a proving ground for daring men experimenting with flying machines in 1909 and 1910. By the time they were finished, they had set up factories to become Italy’s largest aircraft production center. The Germans took over in WWII and laid a concrete runway before destroying the airport on the way out. After the war, the airfield was restored and commercial operations began again. There are two terminals and a railway line that connects them. Over 90 international and domestic airlines make a stop at MXP with both scheduled daily stops and seasonal routes.

Transportation to and from the airport is provided by rail, bus and taxis, as well as rental cars.

Milan-Malpensa Airport Reviews

★★★★☆
Fast and efficient arrivals process with plenty of information on hand for onward travel. Passport control was quick and unobtrusive.
- James Lee

★★☆☆☆
Good coffee and wine, duty free disappointing. Would expect better selection of shops, especially clothing. After all, this is Milan. Lounge was a mess. Tables weren't cleared. Food selection poor, next time should eat before clearing immigration. No clean glassware.
- PTM

★★★★☆
I just arrived at MXP in the late morning and go to immigration to stamp the visa to stay. Got a baggage from the claim. Good WiFi
- Paul J. Bateson

★★★★☆
The airport isn't really easy to get to. Terminal facilities were ok, wifi was good and free. Just enough food and retail services. Didn't test lounge. Immigration was good, no checks. Baggage claim was good.
- Ivo

★☆☆☆☆
Very dated terminal - desperately needs an overhaul. Lack of quality eateries. Security staff who don't appear to be taking their jobs seriously.
- Steve Incontro

★★☆☆☆
Airport staff was a little bit rude and the queues on securiy were very long. Despite this, the airport is well-managed and gate are easy to get to. Very clean and safe too.
- Tommaso Federici

★★★★☆
Malpensa airport is easy to reach via bus or train. It is designed for a much bigger number of passenger, so the huge T1 is almost empty. There is a good choice of shops and some restaurants both before and after security. Sometimes toilets and waiting areas lack of cleaning. Overall is a good, but oversized airport, Be prepared for long walks.
- Gio

★★★☆☆
Get to the airport is too expensive, and it's a confusing airport, not easy to find where you want to go. Food services are quite expensive too, for instance McDonald's is at least +25% more expensive than others in the city.
- Bruno PM

★★★★☆
Easy to reach, fast check-in, security check a bit slow but that's life, exceptional choice for food, nice lounge
- Paolo Tofani

★★★★☆
Good airport with easy connection to the city centre with the Malpensa Express. Security check is very fast und there are many shops and restaurants in Terminal 1. Free WiFi is bit slow though. Still a very modern and nice airport.
