Two 3,920-meter asphalt runways give airplanes ample room to take off and land. The airport saw 118,341 aircraft movements and 9 million-plus passengers in 2021. MXP started as a proving ground for daring men experimenting with flying machines in 1909 and 1910. By the time they were finished, they had set up factories to become Italy’s largest aircraft production center. The Germans took over in WWII and laid a concrete runway before destroying the airport on the way out. After the war, the airfield was restored and commercial operations began again. There are two terminals and a railway line that connects them. Over 90 international and domestic airlines make a stop at MXP with both scheduled daily stops and seasonal routes.
